We do not receive your manuscript.
Pergament does not send us the words you write, the names of your chapters or books, or the location of your book folder. It does not require an account, username, or personal profile.

Files and storage
Your book is stored where you put it.
You choose a folder on your computer. Pergament saves each chapter there as a Markdown or plain-text file. The app also stores its book settings beside those files. You can move, copy, back up, or open the chapter files independently.
Pergament does not send or upload a copy of those files on its own. If you put the folder inside a third-party sync service, that service’s privacy terms apply to the copy it handles.
Limited analytics
A rough count of actions, not a copy of your work.
Pergament can use Google Analytics to understand which basic parts of the app are being used. When analytics is configured, usage statistics are on unless you turn them off in Options → About → Usage stats. Pergament’s own event code reports these eight actions:
- Open The app was opened
- Book A new book was created
- Help The help panel was opened
- Settings The settings panel was opened
- Export A PDF export succeeded
- Export A DOCX export succeeded
- Export An EPUB export succeeded
- Export An ODT export succeeded
Pergament does not attach manuscript text, filenames, folder paths, or account information to those events. It adds only a general platform label indicating whether Pergament is running as a desktop or Android application.
How the information is sent
Pergament does not load Google’s tracking script inside the application. It sends a small HTTPS request to Pergament’s analytics relay, hosted by Cloudflare. The relay accepts only an approved event name, the platform, and short-lived session information, then forwards that limited payload to Google Analytics.
The native request uses randomly generated client and session IDs that last only for the current launch and are not saved for the next one. It also includes a small engagement-time value required for the event to appear correctly in Analytics. The relay rebuilds every accepted payload and does not store it in a database.
Cloudflare processes the relay request, including ordinary connection data such as an IP address. The relay forwards only its rebuilt analytics payload to Google Analytics; it does not forward your manuscript, filenames, or folder path. Google and Cloudflare handle the information they receive under their own terms.

This website
Website analytics only with your permission.
This public marketing website does not ask you to create an account or submit personal information. If you select Allow analytics, it loads the Google Analytics 4 tag for the Pergament website. If you decline, the tag is not loaded and no website analytics are sent by Pergament.
When allowed, Google Analytics records standard page views. Google’s Enhanced
Measurement may also record broad interactions such as scrolling, outbound-link
clicks, and file downloads. The information can include the page and referring
page, browser and device details, approximate location, and analytics identifiers.
Google Analytics may use first-party cookies such as _ga. The website
does not send manuscript content because it has no access to your manuscript.
The consent choice is saved in this browser. You can review or change it using .
Normal server logs may still be created by the company that hosts the website. Those logs commonly include technical details such as an IP address, browser, requested page, and time of access. Pergament does not use them to build writer profiles.
Your choices
You remain in control.
- Choose your folder. Decide where the manuscript files live.
- Use ordinary files. Open the chapters with another text or Markdown editor.
- Turn usage stats off. Open Options → About and set Usage stats to OFF. The choice is saved on that device and stops later Pergament events.
- Choose separately on each device. The usage-stats preference is stored locally for that installation.
- Control website analytics separately. Use the website analytics settings to allow or decline Google Analytics in this browser.
Changes to this page
If the behavior changes, this explanation should change too.
The date at the top will be updated when this policy changes. A material change to how Pergament handles writing or analytics should be described here before or when that change is released.
